About

The Cast:

Hyper Heathen- This is my 12 year old hyperactive tornado and where I got the blog name "Homeschooling The Hyper Heathen" from! Hyper Heathen has ADHD which at this time we have chosen to not medicate him for. His main symptoms are obviously hyperactivity, impulse control, interrupting, sleep issues, improper behavior at times, and immaturity for his age. Well those are his most obvious symptoms anyway. He's a sweetheart though and very easy to love.

HH wants to be a Paleontologist when he grows up and he has actually wanted to be one since he was two years old and learned the word "paleontologist"! He has always loved dinosaurs and use to blow us away daily with his knowledge of them when he was little. I think he's proof that children really do learn on their own and in their own ways.

HH's favorite subjects are Math (he is awesome at it) and Reading (he was never classically taught how to read he just up and started doing it one day!). His least favorite is Writing. That boy hates having to write anything! LOL. He loves Minecraft, Pokemon, YuGiOh, 80s cartoons, Animal Planet, of course anything with Dinosaurs, Archery, his dogs, Chess, and time with friends.

Jo- I am 39, have homeschooled all three heathens but only have one left at home, am wife to the Hubby Guy, a published poet, freelance writer, a cancer cohabitator (bugger's renting space in my body), MEN2a advocate, AND I have a sense of humor too!

Hubby Guy- We celebrated our FOURTEEN year anniversary on May 6th this year and while it's been a rough road at times, it has definitely been worth it. He will be the first to tell you he doesn't agree with homeschooling all of the time but when it comes down to it he is my biggest champion and I love him for it.

Big B- My oldest son that turned 23 years old this year. He started homeschooling in November of 2005 so every day was a learning experience for us. His short term plan is to become a Correctional Officer and continue college. We've done alot of growing up together the last 23 years (I was a teen mom). I'm so very proud of the man he is becoming and have no doubt that he is going to continue to be an amazing person for the rest of his life.

Sissy- My middle child and only girl. She turned 20 years old this year and homeschooled from March 2005 until the beginning of her Eighth Grade year when she went to a local charter school (Horrible mistake). Sis wants to become a Landscape Photographer and is still deciding on collage or self-trained in photography. I'm also proud of the beautiful young woman she has become and have no doubt she will continue to learn, grow, and become even more awesome.

All together we are a secular family who has three people with a rare cancer causing disorder (the oldest two have already had surgery to remove cancer once & Big B is getting ready for surgery for the second cancer), who homeschools and daily we are just the same as everyone else (just a little more scarred is all). We just try to live life to the fullest each day that we can. Making memories is a big part of our life and probably why I post on this blog about not only strictly homeschool related things but the fun activities we do as well.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy.
